Instructions for Nomination of Fellows

Nomination forms are provided here.

Any member of the Econometric Society may nominate candidates for Fellow. Click on the link above for a nomination form; additional forms can be photocopied. Information required includes the name, position, and address of the nominee; a six-item bibliography; and a nomination statement (maximum 125 words) that summarizes the main scientific achievement of the nominee. Longer nomination statements of several pages will be accepted for those nominees whose principal scientific writing has been published in languages other than English.

The nomination form can be completed either as hard copy or as an MS Word document sent as an e-mail attachment. None of the information on the nomination form should be entered in a font size smaller than 10 point. The completed form should fit on one side of a page. Endorsing Fellows are requested to send their endorsements by mail, e-mail, or fax to the original nominator, not the Society's business office.

The original Member or Fellow who completes the nomination form will collect these endorsements by mail, e-mail, or fax and forward them as one package to the Society's Secretary. The nomination form and the package of endorsements can be sent by regular mail to: Professor Julie P. Gordon, Secretary, The Econometric Society, Department of Economics, Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois 60208-2600. Alternatively, these may be sent by e-mail attachment to: emsociety@northwestern.edu.

The Nominating Committee for Fellows will conduct a ranking of all nominees in order to determine the candidates to appear on the ballot. If three or more Fellows endorse a candidate, then the candidate's name will automatically appear on the ballot of that year. Candidates who fail to win election in a given year are no longer carried over automatically to the next year's ballot and must be renominated by the standard procedure in order to appear on the ballot in any subsequent year.

The 2000 Executive Committee voted that no more than 10 endorsing names, including the original nominator, will be listed on the nomination form distributed with the ballot. If more than 10 names are received, the original nominator will be responsible for selecting the subset of names to appear on the form. If Y endorsements are received, then the phrase "plus X additional endorsements" will appear on the form, where X=Y-10.

Please note that the deadline of receipt of nomination forms together with packages of nomination endorsements, whether by mail, or e-mail attachment, is April 30, 2005.
