Abstract:
The agreement of association between Tunisia and the European Union has for objective the progressive creation of an euro-mediterranean economic space guaranteeing a free circulation of goods, capital and services. The dismantling of custom duties of industrial products has begun since 1996 while the process of liberalization of the agricultural shutter has been under negotiation. Three protocols are governing this shutter which are to be re-examined in 2001. The first protocol fixes quotas, tariff reductions and calendars for Tunisian products exported to the E.U. The second protocol is relative to fishery products. Finally, the third protocol concerns the European agricultural exports for Tunisia. The object of this work is to examine the competitiveness of the cereals sector in Tunisia as these negotiations are underway. NOTE: see pdf file for the rest of abstract.
