Abstract:
This paper re-addresses the issue of international currency substitution, estimating a money demand equation for the euro-area. By stressing the interdependent nature of the international monetary system, this paper challenges the view that the monetary integration in Europe has favoured a move towards more inward-based approaches to price stability.
