Abstract:
In survival analysis, a wide class of econometric models can be implemented to specify the unemployment duration time dependence. Amongst them, the piecewise model gives access to a spectrum of relevant hazard rate specifications. The aim is to reach the fairest one. This paper is an empirical investigation which implements all available specifications of the piecewise model. Adding to this, unobserved heterogeneity tests are implemented. This enables us to intersect time dependence specification and heterogeneity in an exhaustive angle. The data used here comes from a phone survey undertaken by the Centre d'Etude et de Recherche sur les Qualifications (Céreq, Marseille, France). This panel is devoted to young people dropping out the educational system from the lowest training level to {\it baccalaur\'{e}at} level (leaving certificate).
