A Linear Programming Model of the U. S. Petroleum Refining Industry

Abstract

This paper is addressed to the problems of estimating output capabilities for an entire economy. It represents a one-industry experiment in relying primarily upon engineering data for this purpose, rather then upon time series informationalone. The use of linear programming, combined with the shift in emphasis upon sources of information, holds out the promise of greater forecasting reliabilitythan is otherwise attainable.
